Hello,

Tap to Pay on Android enables the ability to accept contactless payments in person, directly on compatible Android devices. With Tap to Pay and the Stripe Terminal SDK, you can accept contactless payments from physical cards and digital wallets—no extra hardware required.

We’re excited to announce that as of June 14, Tap to Pay on Android is generally available in Singapore, the UK, and the US, and available in a self-serve public beta in all other Terminal markets.

As part of the launch, support for taking Tap to Pay on Android transactions on SDK versions older than 2.20.0 is scheduled to be disabled on July 15. This is to ensure that applications that integrate Tap to Pay on Android are compliant with payment network security requirements and are securely taking payments in your application.

After July 15, older localmobile SDK versions will return an error message via TerminalException.errorCode during the connectReader step that the user should update their application to continue taking payments with Tap to Pay on Android. Applications using Terminal SDK versions older than 2.20.0 after July 15 will no longer be able to take payments with Tap to Pay on Android.

As payment standard security requirements continue to evolve and security vulnerabilities are encountered, the minimum required SDK version might change again in the future. Stripe will try to give as much notice as possible when these requirements change by sending notices to active Tap to Pay users and this email list.
