Hi Remi,

we frequently run into the following: "Stripe doesn't currently support application fees for platforms in US with connected accounts in **". We've seen that for MX accounts and now TH.

Is there a way for us, ideally during the initial connect attempt, to determine if we can actually charge application fees on the connected account?

Looking forward to your response.

Best,
Peter

Hello,

Using application fees with Stripe Connect is available in most countries but there are a few exceptions based on the country of your platform account and the country of the connected account. Those exceptions are rare but do exist but we don't document those well today. I did flag this internally so hopefully we can have a canonical documentation about this in the future.

To unblock you though, I had a look internally and for a US platform you can not use ApplicationFees in:
* BR / Brazil
* IN / India
* MX / Mexico
* MY / Malaysia
* SG / Singapore
* TH / Thailand

Hope this helps!
Remi

That's all I need for the moment. Looking forward to the documentation.

Thanks Remi. Much appreciated.

Best,
Peter

Hey Remi & Stripe Team - I wanted to see if there was an update on this list? I'm getting the same error but "Stripe doesn't currently support application fees for platforms in The Netherlands with connected accounts in ****"

Right now specifically Mexico but I wanted to see if there was a document created so I could check where from the Netherlands I will get this error for my connected accounts.

Best,
Sam

Hey Samantha,

Sorry for the confusion here. There's unfortunately still no public documentation about this but I'll bump the request internally to see if we can get something out some time this year. In the meantime, the best option is unfortunately to make sure to test each country you plan to support in Test mode to make sure it matches your flow of funds.

Best,
Remi

Hey Remi -

Thanks for the quick response! In the meantime, is there any sort of list like that for the USA with the countries? Just so i'm aware.

Best,
Sam

Hello,

We don't have a canonical list to share and it depends also on your own Stripe account's configuration as there are many exceptions that can be made but the list I shared in my original response is still correct:
* BR / Brazil
* IN / India
* MX / Mexico
* MY / Malaysia
* SG / Singapore
* TH / Thailand

Best,
Remi

Great! Thank you Remi.

Last question (sorry!) is there any other documentation or page that goes into depth of why it doesn't work with these countries? (Completely understand there may not be but wanted to see if there was reasonings I could explain to my connected accounts wanting to come on from there)

Best,
Sam

No, there is no such doc at the moment. Definitely something we hope to get to one day but we haven't surfaced even just the list yet so we're unlikely to document this in the near future. There are a lot of complex and subtle reasons for each one around legal/compliance requirements. I can't really get into much details here unfortunately. Your best option is to chat with our support team directly to discuss this moving forward: https://support.stripe.com/contact
