Some happy news:

It took 14 years, but I am still pleased to announce that as of Monday's viewer release (6.5.3.568554) the viewer development trunk builds using Python 3 compatible scripts. If you pair this with a Python 3 compatible autobuild version (such as from the v3 branch) your operating system no longer needs Python 2 --at least to build Second Life's viewer.
