Open MPI has had non-standard Java MPI bindings for quite a long time.  They were the result of some excellent research work from the Polytechnic University of Valencia, with a bunch of followup maintenance by Fujitsu.

However, these bindings have not advanced at meaningfully since 2018.  They are effectively unmaintained.

There is a PR on the table to remove these experimental Java bindings, potentially as early as the upcoming Open MPI v6.0.0 release: https://github.com/open-mpi/ompi/pull/13977

This is an open question to the Open MPI community: is anyone using these bindings?  Would it be problematic if we removed them (e.g., in 6.0.0)?
