Description: Green Stormwater Infrastructure has many definitions, many forms, and myriad benefits – all highly dependent on a given project’s setting and context. Fitting GSI into existing communities requires collaboration between a variety of disciplines, stakeholders and funding sources. While this can seem daunting, GSI projects that have been successfully completed across North Carolina are strengthening community resilience, environmental protection and connecting people with nature. This presentation will highlight multiple GSI case studies – from urban architecture to rural conservation - and discuss how the benefits of each project far outweigh the challenges faced during design, permitting, and implementation.

Speakers:
Hunter Freeman, Sr Advisor, Green Stormwater Infrastructure, McAdams
Daniel WiebkeGreen Stormwater Infrastructure Practice Lead, McAdams

Hunter is a senior advisor to the green stormwater infrastructure practice for McAdams in Raleigh, NC. He specializes in permitting and execution of green infrastructure, nature based solutions, and community planning. Hunter’s work highlights the power of merging stormwater engineering with multiple disciplines to integrate environmental protection measures into the built environment. In addition to his design work, Hunter is a board member on the Southeast Stormwater Association and chairman of the Policy Committee.

Daniel is the green stormwater infrastructure (GSI) practice lead at McAdams. He has provided stormwater design and oversight across North Carolina from the mountains to the coast. Daniel provides design and permitting assistance to clients across the southeast, including drainage system design and analysis, dam management and rehabilitation, permitting tool development, SCM design and floodplain management. Daniel serves as a stormwater control and GSI expert for many organizations and has been a contributor in ordinances, design manuals, and nature based design strategies.
