Integrating Storytelling into Advocacy Strategies

This training equips food system leaders with the skills to use storytelling as a powerful tool for advocacy and systems change. Rooted in the mission of building collective capacity, the session explores how stories make policy personal, connect abstract issues to real lives, and shift traditional power dynamics in decision-making. Participants will examine the neuroscience behind why stories resonate, learn to craft narratives that move hearts as well as minds, and practice framing their own experiences within broader movements of change.

Through guided discussion and hands-on exercises, participants will learn to connect personal experience to collective advocacy goals using a public narrative framework. The session will highlight how to source and share community stories, shape public narratives, and integrate storytelling into strategies that influence legislators, engage the public, and mobilize communities.

About Leah:

Leah Kabran Eden is the Executive Director and co-founder of Equity Advocates, where she leverages over a decade of experience as an organizer and policy analyst to advance food systems change. Prior to co-founding Equity Advocates in 2019 she served as Policy Specialist at the United Way of New York City, leading a strategic planning process to build policy efforts around food security, asset building, and educational access. As Director of Food Policy for NYC Council Member Ben Kallos, she developed a progressive food policy agenda, including increased access to healthy food, school meals, and obesity prevention policies. Leah also produced original food policy radio programming, and fostered relationships with food system thought leaders, members and sponsors as Heritage Radio Network’s Director of Research and Communication. Read more about Leah
