Just to confirm, you mean the auto-update feature from SeaMonkey itself
installed 2.53.18.2 over 2.53.14? Or was the update provided by
something else external to SeaMonkey? (Some sort of script or package
manager?)

2.53.14 is indeed the last build compatible with MacOS 10.9, and the
current code can't be built for 10.9.
