Possible to access cassandra via SOCKS proxy?

Is it currently possible to access cassandra via SOCKS proxy using the python driver?
I haven't found a lot of posts on this; I did find these post on the Java driver https://community.datastax.com/questions/851/connection-to-a-cluster-via-a-socks-proxy.html.
This is for testing and debugging and not for a production client.
