Hi everyone,

As mentioned last semester at our Inclusion/Exclusion event, MUSA will be running a Transition to Upper-Division seminar this semester, unofficially called Math 74.  Here are a few words from our syllabus.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Stepping into your first upper division math course can be a scary thing. Unlike other subjects, the difference between lower and upper division courses in math can be quite overwhelming, the two main culprits being writing proofs and abstract concepts. In this course we will address these issues head-on. In particular, we will learn how to write proofs and develop good mathematical style and we will give students more familiarity with the mathematical objects appearing in Math 104 and Math 113.
If you intend on taking either Math 104 or Math 113 this spring and are uncomfortable with proofs, intimidated by abstraction, or just want some additional support, I strongly recommend you take this course. If you do not plan on taking Math 104 or Math 113 this spring but would still like more background on writing proofs, come sit in for a few lectures and see if it's the right fit. The full syllabus of the course can be found here: https://musa.berkeley.edu/math74/syllabus.pdf
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

If you are interested in Math 74, please fill out this form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfeqE2L9D0T_RPb3wzOG40WsYKYa5erAYh5ttb0Hptu12sEcQ/viewform so we can find a time to hold the course that works best for everyone. There is a slight possibility that this will be a 1-2 unit P/NP course but just assume it's an unofficial gathering of math enthusiasts for now.

With the start of the new semester, we are looking for new ideas and feedback on our events. If you wish to give us anonymous feedback, fill out this form here: Event Feedback Your response will be much appreciated and we will try our best as officers to ensure MUSA is a fun, welcoming place for everyone.

Farewell,
Cailan
