General Opportunities 

Opportunity to Attend COP27 With SERC

SERC will be sending students as observers on an all-paid expense trip to COP27 (UN’s international climate conference) in Egypt from November 6-18. 


Students will gain an understanding of environmental issues on a global scale. Those actively working at the intersections of race, identity, class, ability, and the environment are encouraged to apply. Prioritization will be given to marginalized and underrepresented students.

Community Health Field Study opportunity

In efforts to help students become leaders in Asian-American community health, CAACH and PACH will be partnering with the San Francisco Chinese Hospital for a semester-long internship where they can engage in a research topic of their choosing (i.e. digital health, mental health, chronic disease, etc.). 


ASAMST 197 is a 2 unit study internship. The priority deadline to apply is July 22nd. The final deadline is August 5th. Find more information here.


ASUC Art Studio Registration Opening Soon

Join ASUC Student Union's Art Studio where you will have the opportunity to engage in various creative areas such as mixed media, a street photography workshop, and screen printing tote bags and tees.


Early Fall session is August 29-October 17 and Late Fall Session is October 19-September 11. Click here to learn more.


INFO 289: Citizen Clinic ~ Applications NOW Open!

The INFO 289 Citizen Clinic Practicum is a trailblazing public-interest cybersecurity course where student teams help civil society not-for-profits defend themselves against online threats. Past clients include underfunded national and international human rights organizations involved with refugee, immigrant, and indigenous communities, reproductive justice, voting rights, and combatting mis/disinformation campaigns.

Call for Posters/Videos at ISAM 2022
The International Symposium on Academic Makerspaces (ISAM) is happening on November 6-9 in Atlanta, GA. To present your work at ISAM 2022 as a POSTER or VIDEO, the deadline has been extended to 5 pm EDT, Monday, July 25.  Posters require an up to 2-page abstract which will be published in the proceedings, Videos require only a draft/overview text submission for approval.  Submit yours to present to 300 attendees!

Events

Innovative Computer Art: Past and Present

Join the Computer History Museum on July 22 at 7 p.m. in a screening and conversation with artist Camille Utterback. This event will create a dialog around early computer films and how they paved the way for cutting-edge art installations using today’s technology.


To join in person you must have proof of vaccination or a negative Covid-19 test 72 hours prior to the event. The event will also be available on YouTube following the program. You can register for the event here. More information can be found here



Career

California Tribal Equity/Water Boards Paid Student Intern Position

This is a paid student internship in California Water Boards to work on a machine learning, computer vision research project. The project aims to advance racial and tribal equity with respect to water quality on the North Coast. Graduate students in data/computer science are encouraged to apply.

WIRED Magazine Seeks Computer/AI/Robotics Students

Looking for graduate/undergraduate students studying computer science/ AI/ Robotics who live in the surrounding San Francisco area to participate in WIRED Magazine's new installment of their "5 levels" web series. The series involves an expert explaining their field of expertise in increasing levels of complexity by teaching it to a child, teen, undergrad, and graduate student, before finally speaking with a fellow expert in their field. 


If you are interested email vaness...@condenast.com with your name, age, and a photo of yourself. Also please elaborate a bit on your major and what you hope to do with your degree. You are invited to apply as an Intern at the Worth Ryder Art Gallery and Platform Artspace for Fall 2022! This is a 1-4 unit internship open to all UCB students, regardless of major. Application for these Art Practice internships is competitive. The application deadline for priority consideration is August 5, 2022.
