As the start of the semester approaches this week, I'd like to share some upcoming opportunities, reminders, and events for you to mark on your calendars.

We would also like to extend a warm welcome to our incoming MDes students, who began orientation today. We look forward to seeing all of the ways your work and ideas will contribute to the Jacobs community.

EVENTS, NEWS, AND OPPORTUNITIES  Maker Pass Registration is Now Open! Maker Pass registration for Fall 2021 is now open. Visit the Maker Pass page to learn more and sign up.    Beginning August 25–September 6, Maker Pass hours will be Monday–Friday, from 8:30 AM–7 PM. The Makerspace will extend its hours to 11 PM after September 6. For JPS users, we will also be offering 2 pick-up times, 11 AM–1 PM and 4 PM–6 PM. *Please note that the JPS pick-up window has moved to its permanent location at 234 Jacobs Hall.  Back to School Events at Jacobs Our back-to-school events officially kicked off last week! If you are curious about the opportunities available at Jacobs, including Makerspace tours, information about the Berkeley Certificate in Design Innovation, or how to build a creative community, join us for one of our many in-person and virtual events. All are welcome!  Design Speaker Series Our three Design Speaking engagements—Design Field Notes, Design Conversations, and Design Pioneers—will return this September, beginning with Design Field Notes on September 7! For the full list of events and to learn more about each series, visit our News + Events page.  Applications Open for Jacobs Institute Innovation Catalysts Student Grant Program If you would like to learn more about the Jacobs Institute Innovation Catalysts grant program, join us for our second info session on August 26, from 4–5 pm. Join here. Applications for the fall cohort are due Sunday, August 29th at 11:59 pm. The selection committee will cultivate a grant cohort that represents the diversity of the Berkeley community and fosters an inclusive design community; we encourage students from underrepresented or uncommon backgrounds to apply. 2021–2022 Jacobs Student Advisory Board Application The application to join the 2021-2022 Jacobs Student Advisory Board is now open and submissions are due by Monday, September 6th.
