Hello Jacobs Student Community,

Lauren, here! If we haven't crossed paths at Jacobs Hall, I am the Public Programs and Communications Officer at the Jacobs Institute. I will be sharing news, events, and happenings with you each week that are organized or sponsored by the Jacobs Institute for Design Innovation. Please look out for Amy's digest emails as well, which will continue to consolidate events and opportunities offered by our broader design community. I'm looking forward to sharing all of the exciting opportunities Jacobs has to offer each week with you.

Here's what to know for this week, March 8-12, 2021.

EVENTS:
  • Design Field Notes: Atticus J. Wolf, Founder of m0xy, Oakland, California // Tuesday, February 9 @ 4 PM

Join us for our recurring lecture series, Design Field Notes, which invites a dynamic group of designers, artists, and academics in design-related fields to share their work and practice with our students and the general public. This week we will be joined by Atticus J. Wolf, founder of m0xy, an innovative hub in East Oakland, California. The full speaker lineup is listed on this page.

  • Big Give 2021 // Thursday, March 11 (all day)

UC Berkeley's annual one-day fundraising blitz begins this Thursday! Join us in our efforts to raise money for the Jacobs Institute, which goes to benefit a number of our programs and services at Jacobs Hall. Gifts of all sizes are significant and make an impact!

Want to win prize money for the Jacobs Institute? Sign up for Big Give Live, which will take place at noon THIS Thursday, March 11. Register at bit.ly/bgl_21 and follow @CalStudentPhilanthropy for hints.

  • Women in Tech Symposium // Friday, March 12, 4-6 PM

Student Services Advisor, Tyshon Rogers, will be representing the Jacobs Institute at the 5th Annual Women in Tech Symposium Career Fair. Have a question about the Berkeley Certificate in Design Innovation or other opportunities offered at Jacobs? Stop by the career fair and learn more.

  • Design Conversations: Ahmed Ansari // Friday, April 23, 12 - 1 PM

Save the date for our second Design Conversations speaker, Ahmed Ansari. Ahmed is an Industry Assistant Professor at NYU, where he teaches interaction and systems design, design research, and design studies. As a founding member of Decolonising Design, Ahmed's research combines critical design studies and history through the framework of decolonization. The link to register for the talk will be posted to the Design Conversations homepage in the upcoming week.

And if you missed our first speaker, Dr. Bess Williamson, you can now listen to her recorded talk, as well as read her follow-up Q+A. Find both links here
NEWS AND OPPORTUNITIES:
  • Virtual Workshops // Tuesday, March, 9 & Thursday, March 11 (Ongoing bi-weekly)

Our virtual workshops are a great way to connect with Jacobs while working from home. Join our Design Specialists every-other-week for a virtual workshop on Fusion 360 and Rhino. No previous experience is required, and each week is a new project--join as often as you'd like! Visit our Making at Jacobs page to learn more about all of the ways you can interact with Jacobs, including our new video tutorials!

  • Jacobs Self Service Printing

In addition to the Jacobs Project Support, we are thrilled to announce that our remote 3D printing services are now available to all campus affiliates in support of academic work through Jacobs Self Service Printing (JSSP). Have a friend outside of Jacobs that has expressed interest in 3D printing? Encourage them to try JSSP today!

Have a great week!
