*TODAY* Feb 8: Design Career Conversation: Mechanical Engineering + Design Career Pathways
Feb. 8th, 6-7pm | Virtual, Register for Zoom Link

Join this reunion of four friends from the 2019 Berkeley Mechanical Engineering class.  Alix, Lace, Antonia and Zach are now four years into impressive engineering  careers at companies and in research. Alix is a Mechanical Engineer at Sierra Nevada Corporation; Lace a Hardware Engineer at Waymo; Antonia a PhD student in robotics at MIT; Zach a Mechanical Engineer at Lucix.

We’ll hear lessons learned from entering the workforce, some retrospection on how their time in the Jacobs Hall makerspace shaped their pursuits, as well as how design shows up in their current day to day work as engineers. There will be plenty of time for open conversation, so bring your questions!

Feb 9: Design Field Notes w/ Anna Wodjecka
Each semester, the Jacobs Design Field Notes speaker series invites a dynamic group of designers, artists, and academics in design-related fields to share their work and practice. Each talk is free and open to all students and members of the public. View the full speaker lineup here. This semester, talks will take place on Zoom Thursdays, 10 – 11 a.m. PT. This week's speaker is:

Feb 8: Design Career Conversation: Kloey Battista, Innovation Senior Consultant at Deloitte
Feb. 15th, 5-6pm | Virtual, Register for Zoom Link

Kloey works at Deloitte Digital on an integrated design team and has experience in innovation consulting ranging from product management, design strategy, concept definition, and user research. Kloey earned a Berkeley Certificate for Design Innovation (BCDI) from Jacobs Institute in 2018, and credits her involvement at Jacobs as transformative, paving a path directly towards her current position at Deloitte.

In this virtual Design Career Conversation, we’ll learn more about Kloey’s career path after college, her experience working as an innovation consultant at Deloitte Digital, and hear her recommendations for making that post-graduation transition to the work world both fun and exciting. Most of the session will be open conversation, so bring your questions. Please register to gain access to the Zoom link.

Jacobs Spring Maker Workshops
The Jacobs Institute facilitates a number of workshops throughout the semester, hosted by participating clubs, MDes students, Design Fellows, and our Makerspace staff. Workshops are a great way to become acquainted with a new skill, learn more about the resources and materials available at Jacobs, and connect with our community! Learn more about what’s being offered this semester here. If you have an idea for a workshop you’d like to see, please email Adam at adam...@berkeley.edu.

Virtual workshops are open to all members of the UC Berkeley community, regardless of Maker Pass status. In-person workshops that use Jacobs Makerspace facilities or equipment are reserved for current Maker Pass holders.

Some upcoming virtual workshops that are open to all Berkeley students (regardless of Maker Pass status) are:
  • Thursday, February 9 11:00am - Design for Successful 3D Printing
  • Thursday, March 9 11:00am - 3D Repair: Using 3D Printing to Fix Things
