There is a very high demand for the course, and we want to be able to expand enrollment. We need a strong team to support our students this summer. Interested? Apply ASAP here.

Design@Berkeley GM#5: UX Writing Critique
For Design at Berkeley's GM #5, Daniel Starosta will be teaching us how to optimize UX Writing! Daniel Starosta has worked as a UX Writer for multiple companies and is now a Graduate Teaching Assistant at Berkeley.

He will be giving critiques on UX Writing so feel free to submit some examples to get your work critiqued! You can submit projects for verbal feedback during the GM at this link. Examples: anything that has writing in it, microcopy, portfolio website, etc. The critiques will be anonymous so don't be too nervous!!!

UC Berkeley Library Makerspace Workshop Event

Join us on April 14th, 3:30 - 4:30 pm in the Makerspace in Doe library to learn about makerspace resources and customize a free library tote bag. We will be using the heat press, vinyl cutter and button makers, and you can learn how to translate sketches directly into vinyl sticker designs (and print them!) and use other neat tools in the Makerspace. Register and learn more about the event: tiny.cc/makerspace

[Arts & Design Guest Speaker Series] How I Made It

How I Made It is a guest speaker series run by the Arts and Design Student Council focused on career paths and inspirations with Berkeley alumni artists, designers, educators, filmmakers. Our first speaker event is Thursday April 14th from 4:30-5:30pm in SOCS 185, and we'll be hearing from Takming Chuang (Berkeley MFA 2017), a sculptor and current visiting lecturer in our art department.

Register at bit.ly/HIMI_TC.

Our second speaker event is Wednesday April 20th from 4-5pm in SOCS 151, and we'll be hearing from Jovi Schnell (Berkeley MFA 2015), an artist whose earthly and psychedelic paintings explore the interactions between nature and technology. She's also a part-time lecturer at the USC Roski School of Art and Design.

Register at bit.ly/HIMI_JS. See you there!

Berkeley Certificate in Design Innovation Information Session

Please join us for a Zoom Information and Q&A Session on Friday, April 15th from 3:00-4:00pm, to learn more about the Berkeley Certificate in Design Innovation and have your questions about fulfilling certificate requirements, Summer 2022 BCDI courses, future course availability, student resources, etc..., answered by the BCDI Student Services Advisor.

DOG PACK: Art Exhibition
Opening Reception: Friday, April 15, 6-9pm
Institute of Contemporary Art San Francisco
901 Minnesota Street, Dogpatch Neighborhood

This Friday, April 15, please swing by the Institute of Contemporary Art SF to see DOG PACK — an augmented reality artwork by Jill Miller and Melody Chang. The AR environment is inspired by urban lore about feral dogs in the 19th century who roamed the Dogpatch neighborhood (home of the new ICA SF), surviving on slaughterhouse scraps from 3rd street processing plants. Come see the magic, surprises, and glitches.

[Berkeley Arts + Design Events] The 52nd UC Berkeley MFA Show: Six artists discuss process
12:30 PM - 2:00 PM @ BAMPFA Osher Theater

This panel discussion between the six Art Practice MFA '22 students, and exhibition curator, Claire Frost will consider the questions of what, how, and why artists make what they make. Speaking two at a time, the artists will speak about their artistic practice and the process of making work for their culminating MFA exhibition.

Caltrans Bay Area Bike Highway Study Survey 2
Caltrans Bay Area has developed a few ideas on how bike highways should look around the Bay Area and would like your feedback! They want to understand what features of a bike highway would encourage you to ride a bike for trips you would normally take by car.

The survey should take 10 minutes to complete and will ask you a series of questions about different design features that will help you feel more comfortable while riding on the bike highway. All questions are optional and all responses are anonymous. Learn more here and access the survey here. Share your input by Friday, April 22.

5th Year MIDS Additional Application Deadline
We at the I School are so excited to welcome our next 5th Year MIDS cohort this fall! We can't wait to continue assisting Cal undergrads with accelerating their career paths and achieving their dreams. We are delighted to share that we are offering a third application deadline of May 18 at 8:59pm PST.

Additionally, we have heard from many of you that building relationships during COVID has been difficult. Because of this, we have reduced the number of required letters of recommendation to two. If you plan to take advantage of this opportunity, please add I School Admissions (admis...@ischool.berkeley.edu) as your third recommender and select Save. Please do not send the invitation to the recommender.

We are also hosting a 5th Year MIDS Information Session and Student Panel Webinar Wednesday, April 13 from 12-1pm. During this webinar, prospective students will learn more about the program structure and student experience from the I School admissions team and a current 5th Year MIDS student.
