DESIGN FIELD NOTES FALL 2024

Please join us in welcoming another exciting semester of Design Field Notes. As part of our ongoing course DES INV 95, this speaker series invites a dynamic group of designers, artists, and academics in design-related fields to share their work and practice with our students and public.  


Wednesday, October 2nd meet Shuxin Cheng, Co-founder of SCRY, a pioneering fashion tech brand launched in 2020, and Director of Innovation Design at the School of Design, Central Academy of Fine Arts in China. Shuxin will speak to “A little bit of everything: designing immersive experiences”.


Each talk is free and open to all students and members of the public! All talks will take place on Zoom Wednesdays, 10 – 11 a.m. PT.




MAKERSPACE WORKSHOPS
Workshops are a great way to become acquainted with a new skill, learn more about the resources and materials available at Jacobs, and connect with our community! Workshops that take place in Jacobs Hall 110 or 120 require a Maker Pass; sessions in 10C do not.

Do you have independent or class or club projects that you’d like to show and share to thousands?   The Jacobs Institute is having a large booth featuring a showcase of Berkeley student / researcher / club projects at Maker Faire Bay Area, October 18-20.  Projects will be expected to show for one of the three show days.


Complete this form to indicate your interest and to help us understand your project.  Preference given to earlier entries...  Space is limited so complete the form ASAP!

BERKELEY MASTER OF DESIGN: APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN FOR SEPTEMBER 2025

Are you ready to lead the future of design and emerging technologies?


The Berkeley Master of Design (MDes) is a cutting-edge graduate program, combining technical rigor, design theory, and social practice to equip students with the skills needed to shape the 21st century.
What you’ll dive into:

* Emerging Technologies: AI, AR/VR, spatial computing, IoT, and more!

* Critical Design: Master design processes, prototyping, and communication.

SCET Innovation Fellows Program

Registration is now open for the SCET Student Innovation Fellows Program! All UC Berkeley students are welcome to join and you can sign up here. Challenges begin next week on September 16th, but registration will be open all semester long!


About the program:

  • Complete entrepreneurial challenges on your own time to learn new skills, earn points, and win prizes!

  • With enough points, become an SCET Student Innovation Fellow and earn the SCET Student Innovation Fellow Certificate

  • Build connections and grow your network

  • Open to all UC Berkeley students (from all majors and levels!)
