Hello everyone,
Herp Group convenes again tomorrow evening (Oct 6) when Casey Moss speaks about “Discovery and rediscovery: Salamanders of the family Plethodontidae”. Although Casey claims no professional affiliations, he routinely conducts research and publishes on herps (especially plethodontid salamanders) of the western U.S., often with herpetologists familiar to the Herp Group community such as Elizabeth Jockusch, Bob Hansen, Robert Fisher, and Jon Richmond. From his CV:
"Casey Moss is a biologist with 8 years’ experience conducting special status-species surveys, habitat assessments, biological monitoring, and maintaining compliance with state and federal permits. Casey has conducted protocol surveys and biological monitoring for special-status plants, amphibians, reptiles, birds, fish, and mammals. Casey coordinates with agencies such as the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), U.S. Forest Service (Forest Service), U.S. Geological Survey, University of Connecticut, and the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology in Berkeley on independent research projects focused on plethodontid salamanders. Casey provides expertise on species’ ecology to direct conservation actions and help implement best management practices.”
Come to Herp Group Monday to hear about his research surveying rare and elusive salamanders of our region.
