Hi All,

Our Herp Group speaker for March 17 has been forced to cancel so we are looking for a replacement with short notice. If you or someone you know might be interested in presenting, please let me or another member of the Herp Group leadership team know ASAP. If we are unable to find a replacement, we will have our next meeting on March 31 at the California Academy of Sciences.

Best wishes,

Jim

Hi everyone,

We have not received any offers for last minute talks, so Herp Group on March 17 will be cancelled.

I want to share a statement from AmphibiaWeb regarding the current state of science in the USA, relevant to the cancelation of this talk:

We at AmphibiaWeb wish to express our concern for the future of amphibian scientific research, and indeed all scientific research, in the United States under the current administration. The cuts to National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Science Foundation (NSF), and other agencies - such as the U.S. Forest Service (USFS), Bureau of Land Management (BLM), and U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) - that provide foundational support to science, will have severe consequences for the current and future generation of new scientific knowledge that we report on here. Cuts to indirect costs – which fund the basic infrastructure of the universities at which science is conducted – threaten the financial viability of universities, including institutions where many of AmphibiaWeb’s steering committee members are based. The various cuts to scientific federal agencies have already and will continue to affect our website, because it relies on university personnel and infrastructure, partnerships with other agencies, and volunteer time of many academic scientists. If you love amphibians (and AmphibiaWeb) as we do, we encourage you to stand up for science whenever and wherever you can.

Our next seminar will be held at the California Academy of Sciences on March 31.
