GMS 200, 201 will be offered in Spring
GMS is pleased to offer the two core courses for the Designated Emphasis this spring! GMS 200 / CEE254G, the gateway course for the DE, will be co-taught by Sai Balakrishnan (DCRP + GMS) and Alison Post (Political Science + GMS). GMS 201, the dissertation writing course, will be offered by Desiree Fields (Geography + GMS).

On October 1st, GMS core faculty member Alison Post spoke at a UN-Habitat + Carnegie Foundation consultation to inform the development of the UN-Habitat's guidelines for People-Centered Smart Cities.

GMS is pleased to invite a limited number of affiliates and DE students to the Research in American Politics Workshop session given by Professor Justin de Benedictis-Kessner (Kennedy School of Government, Harvard). He will present "Why We Can’t Have Nice Things in American Cities: How Voters Struggle to Hold Their Local Governments Accountable" on Wednesday, Nov. 6th, 12:00 - 1:30pm (Moses Hall 119). Berkeley Center for Smart Infrastructure
|
|
|
The Center for Smart Infrastructure, directed by GMS Executive Committee Member Kenichi Soga (CEE), develops and tests emerging technologies such as intelligent systems and networks, remote sensing and monitoring, and data analytics for decision-making. It houses a large-scale testing facility to develop intelligent infrastructure system components and trial smart construction and maintenance methods using remote monitoring and robotics technologies. The center also has a computer simulation and data analytics facility to examine the resiliency of infrastructure systems in terms of aging, energy management, climate change and cascading failures using the state-of-the art big data and AI tools. The center addresses challenges in areas including but not limited to:
Infrastructure Replacement, Renewal, and Maintenance
System Operations
Natural Resources
Climate Change
Disaster Response & Emergency and Community Preparedness
Sustainability and Resilience
