Dear Eclipse Community,

  • Are you working in or with a high-need rural school district or school and interested in supporting teaching science in a way that meets standards by ensuring students do engineering and science?

  • Do you want to include technology, engineering, and coding in your school's middle-school science classroom with easy-to-use activities and get support doing so?

  • Are science teachers at your local rural school looking for on-going NGSS (CA) or TEKS (TX) support in the context of using hands-on activities with a student-tested Web App and in-expensive materials to ensure students learn scientific and engineering practices, including computational thinking in science classrooms?

Rural schools with 8th grade science classes are invited to join a Weststudy investigating the impact of the STEMACES program on students' science achievement. The study is also looking to develop effective tools and supports for teachers delivering STEM+C curricula. Thanks to evidence of improved science learning in its Learning by Making course (see WestEd study), Sonoma State, in partnership with Angelo State University, has been awarded an Education Innovation and Research grant to refine STEMACES for broader regional impact and cost effectiveness.

To assist schools and districts with their decision to partner with us, please see attached informational STEMACES flyer.

For more details (or to sign up for the study), please follow the link(s) on the flyer or below before April 30th, 2025. Teachers selected for the study will begin paid professional development as early as July 2025 to teach STEMACES in 2025/26.

Sincerely,

Laura Peticolas
