On behalf of working group chair Linda Lamone, Helen Purcell, and myself Happy New Year! I hope you enjoyed the holiday season.
I am writing because as of today, there has been very limited activity on our Twiki pages. Thank you to those of you that have contributed. Now that the holidays are over I am hoping more of you can dedicate a small amount of time to this project over the next few weeks prior to the Technical Guidelines Development Committee (TGDC) meeting on February 8th and 9th.
As election officials, vendors, and interested parties we find ourselves telling people not to complain about their leaders if they don?t vote. Well that same advice can be applied to the next set of Voluntary Voting System Guidelines (VVSG). The election community has been given an amazing opportunity to help drive the development of these new standards but if we don?t participate in the process what right will we have to complain if we are not happy with the results?
With that being said, please be advised that the development of an election process model will be part of the above mentioned TGDC meeting. This model will be based on input from the working groups and once completed will be used as a basis for developing the next VVSG. This means now is the time to ensure your post-election processes will be part of the development of the next VVSG.
This is what we are looking for to help complete the election process model:
Election Officials ? Any documents, policies, procedures or manuals you are willing to share concerning Post-Election processes. You can simply just load them on the appropriate page and be done if your time is limited or you can further break them down into specific areas at your convenience. If your process is similar to one that has already been loaded you can simply acknowledge that fact. Please understand that this is not an all or nothing approach. We appreciate any contribution you are willing to make because every little bit truly helps.
Vendors ? Any overviews, instructions or manuals you are willing to share concerning Post-Election processes as it relates to your products. You can simply just load them on the appropriate page and be done if your time is limited or you can further break them down into specific areas at your convenience. Please understand that this is not an all or nothing approach. We appreciate any contribution you are willing to make because every little bit truly helps.
Interested Parties ? Any observations, suggestions or articles you may have written or seen that you are willing to share concerning Post-Election processes will be extremely helpful to this overall project. You can simply just load them on the appropriate page and be done if your time is limited or you can further break them down into specific areas at your convenience. Please understand that this is not an all or nothing approach. We appreciate any contribution you are willing to make because every little bit truly helps.
I know we are all very busy but I cannot stress enough the importance of this first step in the process of creating a new set of Voluntary Voting System Guidelines.
