Hi Everyone,

The email lists and associated Voting Public Working Group conference calls are a set of moderated, public forums, not consensus standards committees.  These forums allow NIST to gather technical input from the voting community on principles and guidelines and the associated requirements to help ensure that our recommendations to the Election Assistance Commission’s Technical Guidelines Development Committee are as well considered as possible.

The passion displayed by participants is remarkable and demonstrates everyone's desire to get things right. However, in recent weeks a number of posts have strayed beyond the scope of the VVSG or have dominated discussions in ways that may discourage broad participation.

To help get the groups back on track, we are temporarily taking a short break in activity while NIST creates additional guidance for participants and updates the rules for engagement.  I anticipate the lists will be back online within a few days.

Sincerely,

Mary Brady

NIST, Voting Program Manager
