Full name instead of username on calendar?

Hi,

At the University of Pennsylvania's, we recently started setting up another new installation of NEMO (technically, NEMO-CE) for the Engineering school for the Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics (MEAM) Design and Prototyping Laboratories.

Specifically, they were wondering if it is possible for the NEMO calendar (/calendar/) page to show full names of users. When a reservation is created, it shows the NEMO username of the user in parenthesis on the calendar, requiring that you hover over or click on the reservation to see the full name of the user. Is it possible to include the user's full name - or to create a customization setting to show the user's full name by default?

Eric,

I have found a work around for this by creating a "title" for the calendar entry where students can enter their full name and project information to display on the calendar. It would still be helpful to have a user's full name displayed instead of the Pennkey though...

First of all, this should only happen when selecting multiple tools (because the tool name is more important in that case). If you only select one tool, it will display the full name of the user (because we don't need the tool name).

I am going a bit on a tangent here, but we might want to think of a better/more consistent way to display customer data in the different views (personal schedule, one tool view, multi tool view, lab use view, etc.)

I remember having a discussion with someone about privacy and about letting users opt out of having their name displayed in various screen (jumbotron, status dashboard, calendar, tool control etc.) so this could also be implemented at the same time.

I am thinking we could use the following customization settings for user display:

1. "Full name": first last (username)
2. "Name": first last
3. "Username": username
4. "Anonymous"

They would be available for Calendar, Jumbotron, Status dashboard etc.

And then we would allow individual users to override each one in their preferences page.

I wonder if this might be overkill, but I also know privacy and customer data is important for many facilities.
