Hi there,

Anyone there knows what precisely do I have to install in Ubuntu to run applications that require Java?  In windows one downloads Java, which I assume to be a Java interpreter that then runs the applications written in Java.  I went to the Ubuntu software center, where I saw many dozens, perhaps 100 java-type programmings, Java for Python, Java for this, for that, nothing very obviously named as an interpreter.  Now, it could well be that what I need to install is not an interpreter, I am not familiar with it, I am just guessing.  In one way or another, I appreciate suggestions and help.

Just in case, if it helps to know why, I registered with the USPTO to make my own patent applications, I got a password and all that is necessary.  USPTO server requires Java (their language, which I interpret to mean "requires a Java interpreter to run code that goes back and forth between me and the USPTO").

Thanks again.  Ah, I am really happy with Ubuntu.  I am ranning Ubuntu 11.04 I think.

I just randomly realized that there is a typo. "parter" should be "partner."
