I hope this email finds you well. I am reaching out to you about a free shuttle to West Meadow Beach that we (with Dr. Elizabeth Hewitt from Tech&Society Dept - cc'ed) are running as a part of a research project, but struggling to reach out to the communities to fill up the van. We will appreciate your help to disseminate the info through your Long Island community contacts, especially the libraries. We already communicated with libraries in the North-East of Long Island to post our fliers in their bulletins (because this area is generally more feasible to have multiple round trips to West Meadow Beach), but we will still appreciate your help to have the info posted on library websites and/or newsletters.
Shortly about the project: We have a shuttle that takes people to West Meadow Beach (from wherever they indicate) in the morning and takes them back to the pickup location in the afternoon. The purpose of the project is to provide beach access mainly to disadvantaged communities with limited mobility options, such as no car ownership. These communities are challenging to reach through social media etc., so libraries can be of great help. The ride request requires downloading an app that does not solve the digital divide issue but we have created a Spanish version of the app and also have Spanish speaking students in the project team to at least address the language barrier. I also attached a one-page summary of the project for your reference, and also for those who you reach out to.
I attached the flier (both in English and Spanish). I would be glad if you can disseminate the info. Actually, you are welcome to share it with any organization/people who you think might be interested.
Please let me know if you have questions.
Best,
Anil
