Dear Postdocs, Graduate and Undergraduate Students,

Are you a STEM or Art undergraduate, graduate, or postdoctoral researcher at UCSB who is interested in sharing your research through art? Are you seeking creative or collaborative ways to engage with your work?

The Schuller Lab, the Center for Science and Engineering Partnerships, and the UCSB Library are excited to announce the 13th annual Art of Science competition.

In science, as in art, the practitioner pursues moments of discovery when observations become greater than the sum of their parts and begin to reveal an untold story.  Join us in an event to capture the imagination, challenge beliefs and expectations, and share the beauty and meaning of science through illustrative photographs, images, and data stories from your research.

The Art of Science initiative invites current UCSB undergraduates, graduate students, and postdocs to tell the story of their research through the aesthetic. Whether it be striking spectroscopic images of a new material, data from a series of simulations, interesting photos of a device or instrumentation, visual data stories, or some other aspect of research captured visually, we invite you to share it.

Important Dates:
  • Submissions due - March 1, 2026
  • Public Voting - March 9-22, 2026
  • Awards Reception -  April TBA
  • Exhibitions at Santa Barbara Museum of Art & UC Santa Barbara Library
See the AoS website for competition guidelines and more details: https://art.csep.ucsb.edu/

2025 Collection currently on exhibit at the UCSB Library  Ocean Gallery until March 13.

We look forward once again to these works of art sharing the creativity and joy of discovery with our community.
