How to test translations (pt-BR)

I have just finished translating the remaining content required for KA Lite 0.17 pt-BR at CrowdIn, and I would like to test them in our own KA Lite environment.
I have kalite-static (bundled) version 0.17.1 installed in a python virtual environment, but I don't know how to test the *.po files.
At first I tried to use msgfmt to convert .po files to .mo and replace them at ~/.kalite/locale/pt_BR/LC_MESSAGES, but that does not seem to work (no new translated content is seen)...
I know that there are still translations that need to be approved at CrowdIn... So my questions are:
- Are unapproved translations not included in the generated .po file from CrowdIn?
- Also, what is the best way of testing translations and getting them approved?
- If applicable, What procedure should I follow to generate a new content pack?
Additionally, I would like to thank you all for the effort of implementing KA Lite! It is a great tool!
