Sad news that Allan Troxler died last week. Allan was involved in the start of the Boston gender-free English country dance in 1995, and was a co-founder in 1980, with Carl Wittman, of the Durham NC gender-free English dance, Sun Assembly, which also still dances regularly. He taught Scottish dance at LCFD dance camp, and spent an extended time in Boston in the mid ’90s.
His start in Boston was as a Vietnam-era conscientious objector doing community building to counter urban development that threatened poor communities. He was involved in the earliest publication of RFD in the early ’70s, a journal for, among other things, rural gay men and radical faeries, that is still in print. His work in Raleigh-Durham included extensive AIDS activism and service.
