It is with immeasurable sadness that I announce that Fran Hunt died on Sunday, 7 weeks shy of her 80th birthday, though no one who knew her boundless energy and love of swinging would believe that – the age, nor the death. See dance camp picture from spring of 2016.
Fran was a woman who said “yes”. Yes I’ll go to the dance, yes I’d love to carpool, yes I’ll try something new, yes I’ll go pick blueberries or go to the theater, or come over to play games, and yes of course I’ll dance the next one with you. No matter who you are.
In addition to contras (no, not English: too sedate for her) her other love was modern western square dancing where, despite living in northern VT, she was a member of Times Squares in NYC for about 30 years, and attended about 30 national conventions of the IAGSDC (International Association of Gay Square Dance Clubs, an LGBTQ* organization, for you non-square dancers).
She will be sorely missed by her friends, her family, and her larger family of hundreds of dancers.
Donations may be made to All Join Hands. There is expected to be some sort of Celebration of Life some time, some place, but no arrangements have yet been made.
