Is there a supported upgrade path from WW 3.7 to the latest 4.x release?

If the answer is yes, is there any documentation that shows the supported process?

Thank you,

Hi Sajesh,

When I've heard that discussed it's generally around the idea of a how-to doc rather than a tool or automated process. The basic things to do would be to:

1. Dump a list of nodes with MAC address, IP address, and other things you want to bring along to 4.*.
2. wwctl container import /path/to/vnfs/chroot
3. For all the exported node info, "wwctl node --hwaddr ... NODENAME" which should be fairly easy to script from the dumped node info.

I don't have a WW3 setup to test the export options, but faintly recall doing that back when I was using WW3 so it is possible, just might need to play with the output formatting. I do specifically recall editing the perl module in WW3 that formats output to make the columns wider so values wouldn't get truncated when I'd dump my nodes.

I'd also recommend setting up a new master node with 4.x and testing in parallel along the way, not trying to do the upgrade in-place on the current master node. I suspect trying to upgrade in-place will lead to sadness.

Best,

griznog

Thank you for info and pointers. Will look into setting up a parallel master and doing a migration in that manner.
