to gasnet-users, gasnet announce

The Pagoda project at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is pleased to announce the latest release of GASNet-EX, now available for download from gasnet.lbl.gov. Recent changes are described in the ChangeLog. Highlights include significant performance improvements to the InfiniBand ibv-conduit, the addition of an experimental new conduit for UCX on Mellanox InfiniBand, and the addition of support for PMIx spawning and the forthcoming GCC10 compiler.

GASNet-EX is the next generation of the GASNet-1 communication system. The GASNet interfaces are being redesigned to accommodate the emerging needs of exascale supercomputing, providing communication services to a variety of PGAS programming models on current and future HPC systems. This upgrade is being done as part of the DOE Exascale Computing Project (ECP). Note that additional features are coming soon, and are not yet present in this release.

GASNet-EX is now our primary product, and support for old GASNet-1 releases is being phased out.  Developers of new and existing GASNet clients and conduits are strongly encouraged to migrate to GASNet-EX.  A backwards-compatibility layer in GASNet-EX eases the adoption path for existing GASNet-1 clients, allowing drop-in replacement and incremental transition for most clients.
