Greetings -

I was writing to see if our LOI (attached) that was submitted back in
August could be added to this page under Section 4:
https://snowmass-compf2-accbeammodel.github.io/loi/submitted.html#shared-accelerator-beam-simulation-tools

The work that we are doing (and propose here as well) is related to Ji
Qiang's et. al.'s proposed work on Poisson solvers. In fact, we have
already been successful in showing FMMs are a viable, and potentially
preferable, approach to some Poisson solvers for modeling space charge
effect.

I think the larger community would benefit from seeing our LOI on the
page above. We think FMMs havea lot of potential and should be part
of the larger conversation around building advanced and shared
modeling tools for the accelerator community.

Thanks and please let me know if this is feasible.
Best,
Harper

Hi Harper,

Sure. Thanks for sharing your LOI. A portable fast multipole library would be very useful to the community.

In order to add it in https://snowmass-compf2-accbeammodel.github.io/loi/submitted.html#shared-accelerator-beam-simulation-tools, can you send us the link to the LOI in the Snowmass21 database? This is the link that we provide for each LOI.

Thanks,
Jean-Luc

Jean-Luc -

Sounds great. Here is the link:
https://www.snowmass21.org/docs/files/summaries/CompF/SNOWMASS21-CompF2_CompF1_Harper_Langston-018.pdf

We actually have already been able to successfully integrate an FMM
tool into Synergia for space-charge effects and are seeing improved
accuracy over the Hockney-PIC solver. We are consulting with Fermi's
AS Group to try to run some simulations, but I'm excited to hopefully
share the results with the Snowmass community. I agree that FMMs would
be a really great tool for the community!

Best,
Harper

Thanks. I added your entry in https://snowmass-compf2-accbeammodel.github.io/loi/submitted.html#shared-accelerator-beam-simulation-tools.

Give a few minutes for the server to update the public html.

I also added you to our interest group mailing list.

Best,
Jean-Luc
