EOIR July 2026 data with additional relief, bond, and case length information

[Deportation Data Updates]

We have released an updated version of the processed EOIR dataset including cases through July 1, 2026. In response to feedback, we have also added several new categories of information. The data tool, where we encourage you to start, is also updated.

First, we now include information about up to three bond decisions in each case---the first, second, and last bond decisions. (Note that if there's only one bond decision, the same information is in the first and last bond decision fields.) There are relatively few cases in which there are more than three bond decisions; that information is in the original dataset.

Second, we now include information about the outcomes of the most common relief application type. That means that where, for example, an individual applied for asylum, withholding, and relief under the Convention Against Torture, it is now possible not only to see whether the individual applied for those forms of relief and what the `case_outcome` was, but also what the outcome each relief application was.

Third, we have added several variables tracking the number of days from one case event to another---for example, from the nta_date to the ij_completion_date_last. These are computed from information that is already present in other fields; we provided the computed values for convenience.

Fourth, we added withholding-only cases to the dataset, in addition to the standard removal cases. These represent approximately 40,000 cases from Oct. 1997 to July 1, 2026. Note that we still do not include legacy exclusion/deportation cases.

In making these changes, we have changed the names of some the existing fields for uniformity, hopefully in ways that are self-explanatory. We have updated the codebook accordingly.
