to Deportation Data Updates

We have released a dataset compiled from government sources on ICE immigration detention facilities. The data include information on the location, average daily population, and responsible field office of every facility that held at least one detainee from January 1, 2025 through March 10, 2026. The data are also now joined to the individual-level data we released in March 2026 on ICE detention stints and stays using ICE’s detention facility code. The dataset complements our ICE field office data, which includes the locations and areas of responsibility for each field office and check-in (sub) office.

To construct the data, we relied on publicly available data sources on ICE detention facilities, including data from FOIA requests by several organizations, information from the ICE website, and ICE’s bimonthly detention management spreadsheets. We posted each source in our archives of historical data and agency reports, as well as the code we used to process and compile the data. A team of research assistants verified the location of each facility by hand.

We plan to update the dataset when new facility openings are disclosed by ICE. We also plan to expand the data over time to include facilities that held detainees before January 1, 2025 and to add additional information about each facility.

We could also use your help! We are uncertain about the locations of 133 facilities, listed on the processed data page. If you have documentation about any of these facilities, please get in touch. We also encourage reports of errors in the data; we will do our best to fix them quickly.
