to public....@laschools.net
Hi, I just saw this article in the Los Alamos Daily Post, which says "Los Alamos Public Schools (LAPS) invites the public to review and provide comments on instructional materials being considered for this year’s Social Studies textbook adoption. Sample textbooks will be on display 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23 in the library at Los Alamos Middle School (LAMS)...The School Board will meet at 5:30 p.m. at LAMS following the public textbook review.

I'd like to point out that having the materials on display for 90 minutes, in a single location, is not actually a way to invite the public to review them. Even if this article had been posted with more than 24 hours notice, making it to the middle school in that small window of time is not possible for many people. For example, anyone who works a 9-5 job. Or works or lives off the hill. Or happens to be sick that day.

If you genuinely want public input, make these materials available online and give more opportunities in-person.

Thanks,

Erin Tatge
