Hello
My name is Andrew Zobay, I am a parent of two LAPS high school students.
October is Dyslexia Awareness month. As we know from research, consistent with what has been presented to the LAPS Board in the past, dyslexia affects as many as 1 in 5 people. One measure to address the educational needs of students with dyslexia as well as a majority of other students is to provide explicit, science based literacy instruction. On a related note, the district provides an annual update for it’s Literacy Plan to PED each October, at least that’s my understanding. This plan provides some details on how the district implements and assesses the effectiveness of literacy instruction.
I was disappointed that the October 8 Board meeting agenda did not include any recognition of Dyslexia awareness nor any mention of progress against the literacy plan.
I’d like to request that LAPS provide an update to the Literacy Plan by the November Board Meeting.
Thank you for your time and for your efforts.
Andrew Zobay
