Dear Members of the Board,
We live on Capulin in Pueblo Cliffs on North Mesa. We were the first family to moved into Pueblo Cliffs some 43 years ago.
We are strongly opposed to development of housing on the school property for the following reasons.
1. In case of an another emergency evacuation, the additional 1,000 people would make it dangerous. We have had to evacuate twice since we have lived here. During the last evacuation, our street was one of the last to be told to evacuate. When we got to San Ildefonso, traffic came to a halt. As we waited, we watched cinders fall around us. It was very scary.
2. We need this space for future school facilities as many new homes are already being built around the community and enrollment is going to go up. .
3. Deer are always seen in this open space and our wildlife needs this open space.
4. Already North Mesa's open recreation space is being misused by the County for "storage" of vast amounts of "dirt". County says it is a temporary situation but after so many years it looks permanent. The County seems to do as it wants.
5. We do not think that the school board should be involved in the real estate business.
Sincerely,
Bob & Irene Aikin
