Hi,
I am writing in strong opposition to the proposed schedule changes for elementary schools in the 2024-2025 calendar years, in support of Virginia Grant.
In addition to what was listed in the above thread, I would like to add a few more points.
With the change, high school students will be released later than elementary school students. This means a lot of the after-school programs available in town will be significantly short in hands and may eventually leads to the end of many after-school opportunities.
In line with the potential closure of many after-school programs, parents of elementary school kids will have to start child-caring at around 3 pm. This does not align with the schedules of most employed parents including LANL employees.
Like Bridget Wolf mentioned, if we meet the criteria of education, we would not need to change. So I support the idea of having a plan A when we don't need any changes. In addition, I would appreciate it if we can have a schedule where the high school students still will be able to help with the after-school programs to help with the next generation.
Thanks
Best
