Dear LAPS Board,
I am writing to convey some thoughts regarding the potential move to hybrid. I have learned recently that many parents are not aware that the hybrid model would involve only 2 days of teacher instruction, with the remaining days of the week left for independent learning only.
As a parent of 3 LAPS children and as a new ancillary staff member, I am also concerned that, after weeks of adapting to the remote-only model, changing to a new model mid-stream will be highly disruptive to students, parents, and staff alike. Because hybrid will only allow students 2 days of teacher instruction, I feel that the benefits of hybrid do not outweigh the extensive challenges the model will impose. Additional schedule disruptions would again occur should there be an outbreak of COVID as schools would likely have to close again.
Last year, the White Rock community was rocked by the loss of 3 students. My fear is that in-person learning may lead to additional trauma and loss, should COVID spread throughout our schools.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
--
