Ms Wiens
On behalf of Council, I thank you for sharing your opposition to the Mesa Meadows location for additional tennis courts. On April 5 the Council will decide if this location should be considered. On February 28 the Council voted to consider Urban Park, North Mesa, and Overlook Park. Some Urban Park neighbors have asked that it be removed from consideration as well. This request will also be considered at the April 5 meeting.

Good Evening,

I live in Western Area and I was extremely disheartened to see that the discussion for tennis courts in our neighborhood is once again on the agenda of the county council. Back in 2016 this area was up for consideration. In the end the residents were told that we had permanently been removed from consideration due to the neighborhood reaction and reasoning for opposing the additional courts. I do not believe that stance has changed and I know a petition is going around in opposition. Our area is already full of activities with the football field, UNM-LA, the current (under-utilized tennis courts) and the dog voice command park. The dog training area is constantly in use and is greatly loved by our residents. My family uses it daily and we know many people who use it multiple times a day. It is a common area for wildlife as well. The location, which seems to be widely known as Western Area but oddly is mentioned as Mesa Meadows by the county, would greatly impact those that live right next to where these additional courts would be located. The removal of green space and addition of tennis courts would likely reduce the value of their homes. It would also increase noise and light pollution in our area. Please consider other areas in town or down in White Rock, where there is more space.

Thank you,
Julie Wiens
