Dear Mr. Jarigue, Ms. Specter, Ms. Bernstein, Mrs. Colgan, Mrs. Wyman, and Mrs. Guy
Good morning all, my name is Stephen Blair and I am a Junior at LAHS. As a student with a majority of time spent at school and a job, having a balance of time for academics and working with plenty of time for each is important to me.
While I understand that there are pros and cons to any of the three options, I am inclined to push for either calendar A or C due to how the school days are essentially kept the same, with minor alterations for breaks throughout the school year at the height of provided change. While there are problems with any of the given options, I believe that the current schedule of time given for school days works well enough to continue with it moving forward, at least from the perspective of a student. On top of the time for academics, a bulkier summer break allows for students that are currently looking for jobs or are employed to have ample amounts of time at least once a year to dedicate to earning money and gain job experience.
All in all, the thought process I’m presenting here follows the idea that if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it. While I’ve mentioned that there are of course flaws and inconveniences with our current schedules, I believe they are currently less than those that could ensue with a drastic change such as a transition to calendar B.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Stephen Blair
