Dear School Board,

Legislative resolutions are a very important opportunity that school boards have to promote legislative changes and also a chance for the community to help steer changes with their input and advocacy.

Last year after I departed the school board, I was able to still help draft a resolution that was adopted by the Los Alamos School Board to increase education funding every year by a minimum amount of 4% or CPI, whichever is greater. It is my understanding that NMSBA also approved and adopted that resolution as well. In the prior year, they also approved and adopted our resolutions to provide funding for educator housing as well as a resolution to provide funding of education support staff such as math or reading interventionists.

It’s encouraging to see that broad support, but it’s equally important that both the board and the community continue pushing the legislature to act on these resolutions. Our students and educators deserve to see these commitments turned into reality.

Thank you to the board and staff for the work you continue to do on behalf of our schools and for your commitment to the students, staff, and families of Los Alamos.

Thank you,
Antonio R Jaurigue
