Dear Board Members,
I am calling on you to help all schools with retaining or hiring new custodians! I have been subbing at Chamisa the past few months and two custodians quit. Now teachers have to clean their own rooms, scrub their toilets, take
their own trash out, vacuum their rooms ect. I have been in the girl's bathroom without toilet paper or papers towels. I had to go seek out a custodian to tell them. How is this sanitary??! When I see teachers during their conference time, they are sitting
at their computers doing LETTERS training and do not have free time to clean. They are staying after school or coming in before to pick up someone else's job on top of theirs. I looked at the website to see how much they get paid and it said $13 something.
The two custodians that left went to the hospital to clean for $20. How are you going to get anyone to apply when you can work for Starbucks or McDonalds for more money?
Besides on LAPS website I never see job adds on fb or indeed for help with the school district. This is a necessity to get the word out better and into people's faces. Teachers are exhausted from their jobs and shouldn't have
to add custodian to their resume. Help them out! I have never been to a school that has had this issue before.
Please figure something out for OUR schools. I have heard IAs say this is not in my job description I might not come back next year. Something has to change and quick. Please help them out.
Just yesterday I subbed in PreK and the 3 trashes overflowed. I took them out and found trash bags for the secretary and other classrooms who didn't have any trash bags. Do you do this at your job? I understand everyone in a while if someone is sick or
gone.
Sincerely a concerned future teacher,
Kandus J
