Dear Los Alamos School Board,
The NMPED changed its Toolkit in September 2021 to note that HEPA-based air purifiers could be an effective adjunct to improved ventilation systems. The County has federal funds to get such air purifiers into our elementary schools. After three months, the County has still not purchased such air purifiers for the elementary schools. Our students are now spending almost all of their time inside and a new and probably more transmissible variant of COVID has appeared. I hope the School Board can encourage all parties involved in this purchase to act on it with greater immediacy. During a pandemic, business at the normal speed can be harmful to the health and well-being of our children.
Thank you,
Richard Skolnik (in his personal capacity)
