Hello Dr. Steinhaus and School Board,

Thank you for giving us an opportunity to share our comments regarding the Governor’s announcement that schools can re-open.

The online school has been going well for my child (I know this is not the case for everyone), and I feel like staying remote until all the teachers and students have had the vaccine is the best plan. The cases in our town have been continually rising the last two months and almost every week we receive an email about a HS student or Staff case of COVID. It is clear that HS students add to the spread, and I do not want my child to get sick or to bring this home to our family when none of us has had the chance to be vaccinated yet. I also feel that we have not heard enough about the ways HS will handle things like lockers, passing periods, changing classes, lunch times, etc. to make this a wise decision. Even if there is a feeling that everyone is “being safe enough” at the school with masks and plexiglass precautions, I think starting back up now is not the best plan when vaccination for most could be had in a few months.

Thank you for taking our fears and concerns into consideration.

Sincerely,
Ándrea R. Dowdy
