I am a parent of a former LAHS student and have been teaching after-school Good News Clubs in the elementary schools for many years. I am grateful to you and the district for providing rooms for us to meet each year, and monitors for us. I would like to request that you would find a way to publicize the Good News Clubs and other non-school-sponsored clubs so that interested parents and students could know what clubs are going on at their schools. We do post a flier on the school’s “activities” website each year, but the fliers are in no particular order and parents have a difficult time finding clubs that meet at their children’s school. Perhaps an email could be sent at the beginning of each semester, to all parents of each school, listing the various clubs that are available, and giving contact information so they could sign their children up if they are interested.
Or maybe a flier could be sent home each semester with each student, listing all the after-school activities available at their school, with contact information and instructions for registering their students. The same disclaimer that is on the fliers on the website could accompany the non-school-sponsored clubs. That way, all students and parents would know what clubs are available, and the days, rooms and times that they meet.
Currently such a flier is being sent home that lists only the school-sponsored clubs, so parents think those are the only ones available, and those who know that other clubs, like the Good News Clubs, exist, are wondering why those clubs aren’t listed.
Thanks for your consideration!
