Argument for the Importance of Summer

Dear President Jaurigue, School Board Members, Superintendent Guy, and Assistant

Superintendent Payne, My name is Avery Coffey and I am a Senior at Los Alamos High School. Although these calendar choices don't have any affect on me, I found it important to still share my opinion for the purpose of my fellow students. 

The importance of summer for high school students isn't stressed enough. Although breaks during the school year can be very helpful for students I don't think they should be extended to be at the expense of summer. As I am about to finish high school I have seen that although breaks have been helpful, teachers still assign homework throughout the breaks making them not what they were intended to be. So I think the biggest deciding factor should be to look at the length of summer and that is why I am in favor of Calendar C which has a very good balance of not taking away from summer while also providing a decent amount of break time.
