Jennifer, board members:

Why is this testing not being done at the schools, where the relevant students and staff already are? Or better yet, why not give students tests to do at home?

Testing downtown requires umpteen people to spend time getting there, waiting (i.e., loss of learning time!), and standing around in the cold in a crowd of people at especially high risk of COVID. Further, this approach privileges students whose families have the time and transportation to go downtown.

I’m assuming part of the answer is “we hired a company to do it and that’s how they do it”. But LAPS let the contract and thus LAPS management is responsible for whether the procedures are good or bad.

Or possibly testing is available at schools? Recently Jennifer suggested that in e-mail when the downtown setup was closed. If that’s true, (a) why is it not better publicized, and (b) what is the point of downtown testing?

My family sought testing Monday before last and it was so busy we had to give up and go home. This was around 10:00am, the time that Jennifer has suggested as less busy.

I also understand from the January 11 board meeting that Jennifer’s office is “overflowing with tests” for teachers, which was news to many or possibly most of the teachers watching the meeting. That seems to me a pretty obvious failure of leadership. Teachers should not be getting news about testing availability from school board meetings, and the tests should be where the teachers are, not across town.ß

This approach is clearly not working. Please do better.

Rapid Antigen Covid testing will be available for staff and LAPS students at 2075 Trinity Drive in Suite S through Premier Medical Group from 8:00 - 11:30. Please do not park directly in front of the businesses along that strip. We want to be good neighbors and avoid blocking their parking for their clients. You can park in the lot behind the building or turn left into the dirt parking area in front of the LAPS sign as soon as you pull into the parking lot. Adults must show a LAPS school ID badge for testing. Testing is typically much busier at 8:00 than later in the morning. Arriving at 10:00, or later, will most likely eliminate the lines. Any students who are late for school due to testing will be excused.

  • If your child is sick, or someone in your home is sick, please keep them at home. All absences will be excused.
  • Notify the school nurse, or school absence line, if someone in your household tests positive for covid or has covid symptoms.

Have a nice week!
