I can't speak for everyone, but I, and a lot of other student-athletes, have two comments.
1. We want and need to play our sports seasons this year. As athletes, we rely on our sport(s) to cope with stress and connect with peers. Sports are fundamental aspects of our lives, and practicing/competing is essential to our mental health. Along with this, other states that we will be competing against in the future have been playing their sports, so we've been falling behind them.
2. For us to be allowed to play sports, our school/district has to be in a hybrid model. From what we've heard, it sounds like the hybrid model would include going to our online classes in the morning and attending in-person groups at the school in the afternoon. Our concern with this schedule is that most students doing this won't have enough time in their schedule for sports, homework, and anything else in their schedules, such as spending time with friends and family, pursuing hobbies, and participating in other extracurriculars like clubs. This also applies to students not in sports.
