Dear Board Members and LAPS Administration,
I have had and still have concerns about transitioning to in person learning, especially with the current increase in positive cases around the state. We have a low caseload in our community but also have a lot of out of district students coming from communities that are seeing a large increase in cases. I am a Special Ed IA and love all of the students and the incredible teachers that I work with and want to be back in our classrooms together, but now is not the right time. As an IA, part of my job is to monitor students during recesses, lunches, bathroom breaks, and now, grab and go breakfast. It is during these times as well as working with multiple grade levels and in multiple classrooms that the risk of being infected and potentially exposing/spreading is too high. Due to a medical condition, I am one of those in the “high risk” category, and have been struggling with having to choose between my health, my family’s health, and leaving the students and my coworkers in an even more difficult position. My family has worked very hard and has sacrificed so much to keep ourselves, our loved ones, and our community healthy and safe and feel that the risk is too great to move to in person learning at this time. I am asking that you please help us all to stay safe and healthy and put the transition to the hybrid model on hold and reassess next semester.
Thank you,
Tanya Norris-Sanchez
