Extended Year - Check on Your Music Teachers

Los Alamos School Board, 

I had not realized the new calendar for 2023-2024 has Seniors graduating 2 weeks before the school year ends and I am curious how this schedule will impact the District's music teachers. The list of awards students' won this year illustrates how successful this program is, and if you know any of the kids in these programs you know how beneficial they are to students. 

In the final months of the school year, these teachers lose breaks, evenings, and weekends to conclude the academic year with a series of competitions and concerts. While some of these will not include graduating seniors, many do and will need to be scheduled to accommodate them. In light of this, please make sure you're not exhausting your music teachers prior to graduation, then asking for two more weeks from them.
